|
Do your math leaders need support in their program improvement efforts? Consider partnering with the University of Kentucky Partnership Institute for Math and Science Education Reform (PIMSER) to provide the support they need. Currently, PIMSER is offering the Math Leadership Support Network (MLSN) to math leaders at any level (school, district, regional, or state) in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. MLSN is provided by the K-12 Math and Science Outreach unit of PIMSER whose facilitators have been working to develop and support mathematics and science leaders for the past 12 years.
Target Audience: Educators who are charged with the task of assisting school(s) and/or the district with mathematics improvement efforts in grades K-12.
Goals & Expected Outcomes
MLSN Participants will be provided opportunities to:
• Form a professional learning community by participating in an ongoing study of important conceptual and pedagogical issues facing elementary, middle, and high school mathematics teachers (high quality instruction (HQI), formative and summative assessment, instructional technology, inquiry, literacy...). • Build leadership capacity and improve content and pedagogical knowledge to improve your mathematics program. (The content focus will be proportional reasoning.) • Become aware of the latest research on teaching and learning in mathematics and how to translate that into effective classroom practices. • Provide your district with local experts who are knowledgeable about the program of studies and core content for assessment. • Receive a wealth of resources to enable the implementation of improvement efforts in participant schools/districts.
Facilitators (PIMSER Regional Teacher Partners) Rhonda Allen, Gloria Beswick, Ann Booth, Jane Hunt, Jim Moore, Tolene Pitts, Terry Parkey, Tami Pickett, Vonda Stamm
