The connectivity workshop will run concurrently with paper presentations. The intent of the 2011 connectivity workshop will be to follow up and determine how to implement some of the recommendations from the 2009 workshop. This The State Land Office is a co-sponsor of the workshop, and Commissioner Ray Powell is committed to seeking approval from the state legislature to allocate funding to support the completion of a state-wide effort that will assist the SLO in assessing and preserving ecosystem health. After discussions with Commissioner Powell, the following recommended goals for the workshop were developed:
1) Determine what type of state-wide decision support system (DSS) should be developed
2) Develop strategy to identify and pursue all funding options to complete the project within a two-year timeframe
3) Complete a conceptual framework for completing this project that the Commissioner can present to the state legislature in the next fiscal year
In order to complete the above goals, the workshop will be separated into two parts. The first will feature presentations that summarize current connectivity efforts being conducted in New Mexico, including the DSS along the Colorado-New Mexico and efforts in the Galisteo Basin. In addition, we invited Monica Parisi of the California Department of Fish and Game to present on efforts to complete the California Essential Habitat Connectivity Project. The afternoon session of the workshop will be specifically devoted to meeting the three workshop goals above. When registering, make sure you indicate that you plan to attend the connectivity session. Please contact Pete David at pdavid@swca.com if you have any questions.
