2014 Illinois Mission of Mercy

Peoria Civic Center, Peoria, Illinois

Thank you for volunteering for the ISDS Foundation's 2014 Mission of Mercy to be held at the Peoria Civic Center in downtown Peoria.  Thank you in advance for being part of this event.

Things to know:

Volunteering is fun and rewarding.  While we encourage bringing staff, co-workers and family members, please note that all volunteers must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the event to volunteer at the Mission of Mercy - no exceptions.

Each and every volunteer must register individually in advance.

The system works best when each volunteer uses a unique email address.  If multiple volunteers are using the same email address, please be sure that everyone volunteering receives all of the information sent out via email.  We will NOT be hard copy mailing anything so be sure that you enter your email address correctly.
You will be allowed to choose where you want to work.  These preferences cannot be guaranteed but will be followed as closely as possible. You will be notified if your job changes. The main reason we would switch you from your preferred job is if you are a general practitioner who signed up for a specialist slot and we have a specialist to fill the slot.

While preferences are not guaranteed, the shift times are - so please plan to be there for each shift you select.  Please notify us if your plans change so we can offer the slot to another volunteer.

Some jobs require a significant amount of standing and walking, others are more sedentary.  Please choose a position you would feel comfortable doing for at least 4-5 hours at a time.  You may take breaks as needed.
Each shift has a maximum number of spaces.  Shifts will fill on a first-come, first-served basis.  If you are a general dentist, we ask that you leave the specialty slots for the specialists as they are not able to work outside of their specialty. If there are openings in the specialty areas, we will fill them with general dentists 30 days prior to the event.  If you are interested in a specialty slot, please note that on the registration form, we will use the information provided to fill the open slots.  We would only assign you to an open specialty slot during a time that you are already registered for so be sure to select a non-specialty slot that you will be willing to work if a specialty slot isn't available.

The days are broken up into shifts.  You may sign up for as many shifts as you would like.  If you are willing to work all day, please sign up for the morning and afternoon shifts.  If you are working all day you will notice that there is a half hour layover, this is to allow for training for the incoming shift.

Once a shift is filled, it is filled.  The sooner you register, the more choices for shift times and assignments you will have.

The clinic closes at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.  We do our best to plan that we will be done seeing the last of the patients by 6:00 p.m. Every attempt will be made to get you out earlier but please plan to stay until 6:00 p.m. so we can take care of all the patients for the day.  Thank you for your understanding.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided onsite each day. Group dinners will be also be held.  Please be sure to indicate which meals you will be attending so we can plan accordingly.

All information regarding your registration (confirmation, shift summary, password and other information) will be emailed to the address provided once your registration is submitted. If you don't receive a confirmation within an hour, please contact as there is a strong liklihood that your registration did not go through.

As the event nears, we will send out additional pertinant information via email to you through the registration system.

Please check if you have general questions.  If you need help registering or have specific questions, please send an email to Dionne Haney at or call 217/525-1406.

Again, thank you for volunteering!

Dr. Timm Schwartz, co-chair
Dr. Brad Barnes, co-chair

General Dentists - because specialists are limited to practice in just their specialty area, please do not sign up for an endodontic, surgical or pediatric shift. Instead, select any other dental shift and if there are openings in any of those areas available closer to the event, we will assign g.p.'s that wish to work in those areas to the open slots. If you wish to be considered for one of those slots, please indicate your choice(s) here.
