Engineering Teaching Kit Training for Middle School Science Teachers
Presented by: Dr. Christine Schnittka, Assistant Professor in the College of Education and the College of Engineering at Auburn University, former middle school math and science teacher, former engineer (IBM)
“In the NGSS, engineering design is integrated throughout the document…Students demonstrate their understanding of science through the application of engineering practices…The inclusion of engineering design has profound implications for curriculum, teaching, and assessment” (Appendix I, Achieve, 2013, pgs. 3 & 6).
During each six-hour session, teachers will experience a research-based engineering teaching kit (ETK) that is tightly aligned to science content standards for that grade level. They will leave with a deeper understanding of the science content being addressed, an understanding of how engineering design is used to promote science content understanding, critical considerations for developing integrated units for other standards, and a copy of the curricular materials.
$100 per session
Boxed lunch will be provided
