About Dr. Amy Serin

Keynote Speech Information:  "Seeing the Forest for the Trees - answering your most common questions about parenting gifted children."
In this presentation, Dr. Amy Serin, a Pediatric Neuropsychologist who specializes in the treatment of gifted children, adolescents, adults, and families, will address parents' most common concerns when parenting gifted children.  Using her trademark humor and ability to connect with audiences, this heartfelt discussion will have something in it for every parent, including cutting-edge neuroscience treatments for gifted children, how to address problems with executive functions, what to do about common situations such as bullying and being left out of peer interactions, and the latest on what we know about gifted brains and how to translate this into better parenting.

Dr. Serin conducts psychological and neuropsychological evaluations for ages 4 through adult for ADHD, learning disabilities, IQ, traumatic brain injury, anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorders and giftedness. She also uses a team approach, working  together with schools and consulting with medical professionals to help facilitate the most effective treatments for her patients.  Dr. Serin  applies her personal and scientific understanding of the challenges of parents face when dealing with giftedness, ADHD, autism, mood disorders and other special needs.  Because she cares deeply about her patients’ successes, she also works with parents on structured parenting plans that can minimize tantrums and other problematic behaviors while increasing positive behaviors.

Dr. Serin takes a strength-based, results-oriented approach to her psychotherapy for children, adolescents and adults. She uses cognitive-behavioral approaches because research shows they work for many conditions, including Dr. Serin’s areas of expertise: anxiety, depression, parenting, and women's issues.

Dr. Serin’s approach is both scientific and holistic, and stems from a broad educational background. She graduated from Arizona State University, where she was Valedictorian (Moeur Award) and holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology with a specialty in Pediatric Neuropsychology from The Fielding Institute in Santa Barbara, California. Dr. Serin completed her training at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and several private practices before opening a practice to serve Phoenix and the West Valley. She is a wife, mother and member of the Arizona Psychological Association, the National Academy of Neuropsychology, Arizona Children’s Services Network and the Brain Injury Association of Arizona.
