Berklee City Music Network Conference 2014

Youth Power-Up Day: Empowering Youth through Music

Sunday, November 2, 12:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m.

California Plaza
350 S. Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, California

Local youth and their families are invited to this free outdoor festival in downtown Los Angeles featuring:

  • A jam session with local youth hosted by Kevin Eubanks, former leader of the Tonight Show band
  • Performances by singer and guitarist Raul Pacheco of the Grammy-winning group Ozomatli and folk/blues/punk artist Sunny War
  • Mega drum circle hosted by REMO drum makers
  • Performances by student ensembles
  • Tips on entering the music industry, preparing for college training, and engaging with others in playing an instrument, from beginner to advanced
  • Hosts Petri Byrd-Hawkins from TV's Judge Judy and Emmy Award-winning TV host/producer Tanya Hart 

This event is presented by Berklee College of Music and A Place Called Home in cooperation with Grand Performances as part of the 2014 Berklee City Music Network Conference.
 

Master Class

Monday, November 3, 7:00 pm. - 9:00 p.m.
Grammy Museum - Clive Davis Theater
800 W Olympic Blvd., Los Angeles California

Student ensembles from five of the Berklee City Music Network sites will be coached by leading industry artists, then they will perform for a panel of celebrity clinicians. At the conclusion of the master class, a guest music director will form a finale band made up of students hand-picked from the five ensembles who will then perform live with the celebrity guests.

Every year conference attendees look forward to the BCMN Conference Jam Session, which gives attendees, speakers, and students the chance to create music together while kicking back with some refreshments. Open to all conference participants. Don't forget to bring your instruments!

Networking Workshops

Moderator Libby Chiu returns to facilitate workshops each morning on developing skills to master networking, from the “do’s” and “don’ts” to “when,” “why,” and “how.” Guests in these sessions include experts in arts education, marketing and social media, and student network ambassadors.
