Welcome to the Registration Page for the
82nd Annual Friends Conference on Religion and Psychology This year's conference will once again be held on Memorial Day Weekend, May 24 - 27, 2024 at Pendle Hill, a beautiful and historic Quaker retreat center in Wallingford, PA. It will not be available on Zoom. More information about FCRP, including its long history, can be found by following this link to the FCRP website.
The theme of FCRP this year is “Internal Family Systems: Integrating spirituality into action that heals a wounded world." Our theme was inspired by the turbulence of the outer world and the intention of so many of us to be as grounded as possible when we engage with a less than friendly environment.
We find ourselves asking -- how do we get centered during times of crisis and confusion? And is there a psychological model that will offer healing for the trauma experienced in places such as Israel, Palestine and Ukraine? Intrigued by a growing body of research showing the effectiveness of Internal Family Systems (IFS) in helping individuals find wholeness, we’ve decided to explore how this method can assist us in achieving greater self-awareness for the disparate parts of ourselves. As we reharmonize our inner landscape, our hope is to better engage with others in peaceful and authentic expressions of caring. This year, our plenary speaker is the esteemed author, speaker and therapist, Tom Holmes, Ph.D., who has made original contributions to the understanding of the spiritual underpinnings of the IFS model.
As a training psychologist, Tom has worked with therapists in the Middle East, Ukraine, Germany and numerous American locales. And Tom's book, "Parts Work: An Illustrated Guide to Your Inner Life," explains the IFS model for the everyday reader in an "exceptionally clear and captivating way," according to IFS founder Richard Schwartz, Ph.D. Tom has traveled the world helping therapists to access an open-hearted place within. He is especially interested in the work of the late Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hanh, and aspects of mystical Christianity, Judaism, Sufism and Daoism. During his weekend at FCRP, Tom will show us how we might offer more self-compassion for the subpersonalities within our psyche, with a further goal of reacting with equanimity to the outer world.
