Embracing the Inner Light of the Self –
Carl Jung, Psychedelics & the Modern Spiritual Journey
In a time that feels politically strained and culturally uncertain, we are reminded that we are more than citizens of a fragile moment—we are spiritual beings, each traveling a path of awakening.
With this awareness, we invite you to the 84th gathering of the Friends Conference on Religion & Psychology, held over Memorial Day weekend in Wallingford, PA. Together, we will cultivate resilience, deepen community, and tend to the inner life that sustains us.
On the wooded grounds of the Pendle Hill retreat center, we will reflect on the enduring nature of the Self and the transformative experiences that shape a human life. As Carl Jung observed, awakening comes in many forms. It may arrive in worship or dreams, through deep and mutual relationship, in encounters with the natural world, or in seasons when loss and upheaval open us beyond what we thought possible. For some, such moments also emerge in supervised clinical work with what are often called sacred medicines.
Our guide for the weekend will be Dr. John W. Price, Jungian depth psychotherapist and co-founder of the Center for Healing Arts and Sciences in Texas. A seasoned clinician and gifted teacher, Dr. Price speaks with uncommon clarity and compassion about mystical states -- and about the demanding work of integrating them into the fabric of ordinary life.
Many know him through his widely respected podcast, The Sacred Speaks, where he engages leading scholars and practitioners in searching conversations about consciousness, suffering, and transformation. As he often reminds us, spiritual life carries both ascent and descent -- moments of radiance as well as passages through uncertainty. The question is not whether we will encounter expansion and loss, but how we will live in faithful response to them.
Throughout the weekend, Dr. Price will offer plenary talks and small-group reflection as we ask:
- How do we live in service to what we have seen and felt?
- How do we remain grounded and avoid spiritual inflation?
- How do we shape lives marked by love, humility, and purpose?
(Note: The onsite use of psychedelics is not part of the conference.)
Since its beginnings during World War II—when Friends sought counsel from Carl and Emma Jung about healing the inner life in a wounded world—the Friends Conference on Religion & Psychology has offered a thoughtful and welcoming space for seekers, clinicians, and all who are drawn toward depth and meaning.
And so, we will once again gather on the tranquil 24-acre Pendle Hill campus, a wooded retreat and study center in Wallingford, PA. We invite you to join us from Friday May 22nd to Sunday May 24th, 2026 and become part of our community a living community devoted to reflection, courage, and the quiet work of the soul.
A Note on Changes to the Conference
CEUs - This year we are pleased to offer up to 13 Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) at no additional charge. They are approved for professional LCSWs, MFTs, and LPCs practicing in Pennsylvania. Click here for more on CEUs, including information on reciprocity with other states.
Schedule - If you have attended FCRP conferences in the past, you know that we have traditionally begun on Friday afternoon and ended after lunch on Memorial Day. We want to note that this year the conference will draw to a close on Sunday afternoon. Shifting from a four-day retreat to a three-day one was not an easy decision for us. This format makes our gathering less expensive to create, and more affordable for you. In addition to saving you money, you will be able to celebrate Memorial Day somewhere pleasant with family and friends.
Interest Groups - If you have registered with FCRP before, you know that selecting a topical interest group was part of the process and these gatherings have always been an engaging element of our weekend. This year, however, small groups will be formed out of the conference plenary sessions, under the guidance of Dr. Price. For a preliminary conference schedule, click here.
