Get Acquainted: OpenSciEd Elementary Science: It’s Free, and It’s High Quality.

If your students aren’t performing at the level you’d like on standardized science tests, perhaps your teachers need a High-Quality Instructional Resource to use, to teach in the three-dimensional manner that matches the assessment.

Our standards encourage students to engage in sensemaking, using the science and engineering practices and cross-cutting concepts to figure out science ideas. Our state assessment mirrors that, assessing the practices and use of cross cutting concepts, as well as science concepts, in a format that requires critical thinking and deeper learning.

Are you aware that a new open-source curriculum is being developed that your elementary teachers can access free of charge?  Teachers are not curriculum developers and can’t be expected to put together high quality lessons without a lot of professional learning in science. Utilize the expertise of Open Sci Ed, to help them engage in phenomena driven instruction.

Join us and learn more about the highly acclaimed Open Sci Ed Elementary Program. Teachers will have access to slides, teachers guides, electronic books, articles and infographics at their fingertips that promote integrated science learning that focuses on ELA and Math connections.

Introduction to OpenSciEd Curriculum: Understand the core principles and components of OpenSciEd, high-quality, open-source science unit that promote critical thinking, student engagement, and inquiry-based learning.

Curriculum Alignment: Explore how OpenSciEd is structured to provide a coherent and consistent learning experience for students across multiple years, ensuring a seamless transition from grade to grade in elementary and as students transition to middle school science. Learn about resources available to support implementation at the local level. Materials kits are available from different vendors.

Benefits for State Assessments: The units promote the critical thinking necessary to improve student performance on state assessments and meet dimensions outlined in district developed Portrait of Graduate. This is done by fostering a deeper understanding of scientific concepts and developing critical thinking skills of all students through engaging learning experiences.

By the end of this session, participants will have a stronger grasp of the OpenSciEd elementary units and their alignment to the KAS and KSA.
