PreFestival Session TUESDAY . APRIL 30 . Evening Workshop

Shorebird Wool Coaster



Create a round wool shorebird coaster using rug punch techniques. Project will be completed in this one evening workshop.
Class time & date: Tuesday, April 30 .  6:00 pm - 9:30 pm 
Class location: Net Loft Upstairs Classroom
Class Fee: $25 includes materials and instruction

FRIDAY . MAY 3 . Afternoon Workshop


Shorebird Wire Workshop 

Zack Mclaughlin is a fantasy artist and sculptor. Zack will be teaching you how to construct birds out of wire, each one with comes with its own quirks and character, but that is because you will have made it, with a bit of help from the Maestro. The class will be constructing a wired shorebird. (photos show other birds done with this technique)

Class time & date: Friday, May 3 .  3:00 - 5:30 pm

Class Fee: $30 includes materials and instruction

SATURDAY .  May 4    Morning Session 

Hudsonian Godwit Wool Painting



Learn the basics of needle felt wool painting as you create a keepsake framable needlefelt portrait of this migrating species, another one of this year’s projects in The Net Loft’s Copper River Shorebird Scenic Needlefelt Series.  Class fee of $35 includes woolpainting portrait materials and instruction. Framing and Needlefelt Tool Supply Kit extra. Price for frame and mat depends on frame chosen. We will be framing the landscapes during the class time at the end of the session. Please specify if you will need Needlefelt Tool Kit ($45) Those who do not purchase tool supply kit will need to bring 12x12 foam, Clover five needle needlefelt tool and extra fine needles to class.

Three Mile Bay Wool Painting




Three Mile Bay is a spot on Whiteshed Road know for birdwatching during the migration season. Learn the fundamentals of needle felt wool painting as you create a keepsake framable needlefelt portrait of this panoramic spot, this year’s project in The Net Loft’s Copper River Shorebird Scenic Needlefelt Series.  Class fee of $35 includes woolpainting portrait materials and instruction. SUNDAY .  May 5    Full Day Session


Short Eared Owl Paper Bird Sculpture


Zack Mclaughlin of Paper & Wood will teach many techniques in working with paper to create lifelike feathers and ultimately a paper bird of your own. Starting with the study and drawings, then onto how you will create each feather for your bird with nothing more than a pair of scissors, from the large Primary flight feathers right down to the smallest fluffy plumage.

Enjoy a full day in the fine company of this wonderful bird artist Zack.  Five and a half hours won't be long enough to complete your paper bird, but you will learn all you need to be able to finish off the last bits on your own and then go on to make many more.

Included in the class kit: instructions, templates, coloured paper, tracing paper, glue, craft wire and a plastic resin body with wire feet and hoop for hanging. There will be scissors and scalpels here but if you have a favorite pair of scissors then please bring them along, comfort is everything when you'll be cutting all day!  If you have paper you would like to use then please feel free to bring.

Snacks. Refreshments, and a light lunch will be provided.
