Tweety Yates, Ph.D.

Happy, Frustrated, Excited, Worried: What's That Go to Do With Literacy and Math?

The early childhood years are critical for giving children the positive start in life that they deserve. YOU play an important role in making this happen!  Intentionally interweaving areas such as literacy, math, and social emotional development across your daily routines and schedules can increase the opportunities for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers to be successful. Let’s use our time together to reflect on the great things you are already doing, while expanding your toolbox of ideas, strategies, and resources! Small changes can have a big impact!

Dr. Tweety Yates recently retired from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Although retired, she continues to do work around supporting infants, toddlers, preschoolers and their families for the University of Illinois as well as Vanderbilt University. She is also part of the Pyramid Consortium Leadership Team for promoting high fidelity use of the Pyramid Model for Supporting Social Emotional Competence in Infants and Young Children. Through previous projects, Tweety has developed numerous materials for teachers, childcare providers, home visitors, parents, directors, and early childhood faculty.  She has provided professional development on topics related to infants, toddlers, preschoolers and their families for over 35 years. She has worked as a teacher, home visitor and facilitated parent-child groups.
