Saturday July 30—Sunday July 31, 2016    10:00 AM—4PM

Color mixing may be a joyful process or a frustrating one, depending on each artist’s
awareness. This workshop will delve deeply into the ancient language of color and explore new ways to mix watercolors with ease and delight. We will work both systematically and intuitively, creating a beautiful color wheel and a series of studies for future reference. Our focus will be summer’s palette, as we observe and mix the colors of leaves, flowers, berries, lichen, and fungi. You will receive clear in-depth instruction on watercolor technologies, color interaction, how color creates mood, what colors you are drawn to, and how to use this knowledge to empower your painting vision. Our studies will be applicable to watercolor, acrylic, gouache, oil,
ink, and will especially helpful in Andie’s second workshop, “Field Studies: Forest Flora & The Artist’s Book.”

Workshop Fee: $200 includes lunches.

Friday August 5—Sunday August 7, 2016

10:00 AM—4PM

Experience the elusive creative space between care and abandon as you invite forest magic into the making of an artist’s book. We'll wander outdoors, take notes, study colors, sketch shapes, glean ideas, and collect forest objects. In the studio, we’ll paint shimmering surfaces for our book pages and covers, inspired by forest flora. Once dry, our paper will have a surface wonderfully primed for building additional layers of drawing, painting, and writing in both traditional and non-traditional ways. Directed experiments will dance between control and wildness, using watercolor, ink, gouache, and pencil to develop imagery and content. All will come together as your work is bound into an accordion-folded artist’s book, full of forest energies.

For all experience levels. Color mixing understanding, as taught during the previous weekend’s workshop, is recommended.

Workshop Fee: $300 ncludes lunches plus $20 materials fee to instructor for bookmaking supplies needed in addition to class materials required to bring to class.  total $320
