Andie Thrams has been invited to work in wilderness forests as artist in residence in Alaska's Tongass National Forest, Yosemite National Park, Idaho’s Sawtooth Range, the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies, Glacier National Park, and Sitka Center for Art & Ecology. During these residencies, and whenever else she can, Andie hikes, kayaks, and backpacks her way into forests to create paintings and pages for her ongoing series of artist’s books, In Forests and Field Studies.
Join Andie as she shares how and why she creates art in remote places,
including her field kit and the art materials she uses, how she lives with bears,
rain, mosquitoes, and solitude, art techniques she finds conducive to outdoor work, how living in Alaska changed her forever, and why she has made a practice of being a forest artist.
