What Are Students Really Thinking? Using Formative Assessment Probes and Techniques for Responsive Teaching and Conceptual Learning

Audience: K-12 science teachers, Instructional coaches, and faculty who support science teachers

Description:

This interactive workshop will focus on turning student thinking into a powerful driver of instruction and learning. During the morning session, participants will learn how to use formative assessment probes to uncover students' ideas and use them to make informed instructional decisions. In the afternoon, teachers will build a toolkit of formative assessment classroom techniques (FACTs) and examine how to seamlessly connect these strategies, as well as the probes, to their instructional materials. This session emphasizes practical application, helping educators make immediate, meaningful shifts in their teaching practice.
