WORKSHOP HOMEWORK/SUPPLIES

All purchases from the Net Loft for knitting yarns and needles for workshops will receive 10% off unless specified.

For Courses that do not require homework, workshop students in town may come pick out supplies prior to class.For those out of town, we will have shop open extended hours to allow for class materials purchases and pickups from preordered items. Lace Courses:

INTRODUCTION TO LACE KNITTING

NO HOMEWORK PRIOR TO CLASS .

Required Materials to bring to class. YARNS TO BE PRE-WOUND prior to class if in skein form.

Yarn and needles: For small sample size, 50 yds (50 m) of fingering or Shetland/sport/DK weight yarn in medium or light color. Knitting needles in size appropriate for yarn (generally a needle one two sizes larger than usually used for a yarn will work)

SAMPLE WILL BE THE START OF THE BUTTERCUP SHAWL. AFTER CLASS ONE MAY CONTINUE ON AND COMPLETE FULL SIZE SHALE. 

For full size shawl:

Lace Yarn: 450 yds (410 m) or more and US 3 (3.25 mm) needles*

Fingering Yarn: 500 yds (457 m) or more and US 5 (3.75 mm) needles*

Shetland/Sport DK Yarn: 575 yds (526 m) and US 7 (4.5 mm) needles*

Other Supplies: coil-less safety pin or split ring marker, and usual knitting supplies.

*Needle size will depend on your yarn’s characteristics and your knitting style. Knit a small swatch in plain garter stitch to determine best size. Sample shawl was knit with a 100 g skein of Brooklyn Tweed Vale lace yarn using US 3 (3.25 mm) needles.  Sample above is Extra FIne Merino Lace Cordova Rainy Day Buttercups from Three Irish Girls.



ICELANDIC LACE SHAWL KNITTING

NO HOMEWORK PRIOR TO CLASS


Required Materials to bring to class. YARNS TO BE PRE-WOUND prior to class if in skein form.

The instructions lwill be provided and later can be used to create a full-size scarf or small shawl in a variety of yarns. Garter-stitch tab beginnings, splicing color changes, wide triangle shaping, chart reading, beading stitches, and the crocheted chain cast-off will be demonstrated in the class.

Required Materials

100 yds (92 m) fingering or Shetland/sport/DK weight yarn in a medium or light color

Knitting needles in size to give a medium-to-loose gauge in stockinette stitch

Crochet hook in size appropriate for yarn

4 narrow, light weight stitch markers

Usual knitting supplies

We have some beautiful yarn sets coming that would make a beautiful shawl that will be available to choose from in June at the event.



TWO DAY LACE DESIGN WORKSHOP

       NO HOMEWORK PRIOR TO CLASS 

Students will explore the basics of creating their own lace motifs and how to shape them into a variety cowls, scarves, and shawls. A small sampler will be knit to demonstrate how making small changes in the decreases can have a large impact on the lace.  Placement of those decreases will be discussed, including how to re-chart a motif to knit it from the opposite direction or fit it into a variety of shapes, such as triangles, rectangles, circles, and asymmetrical triangles. Designs will be charted on graph paper and then swatched for a project.  

Class Fee includes lunch. 

Required Materials

50 yds (50 m) Shetland/sport/DK or heavier yarn in medium or light color for the sampler

Additional amounts of the same or other yarn for swatching lace motifs

Knitting needles in size appropriate for those yarns

4 or 5-to-the-inch graph paper, pencil, and eraser will be provided in class to all students.
