NET LOFT FIBER & FRIENDS 2014  -  CORDOVA, ALASKA

...intentionally off the beaten path;  worth the journey.

The Net Loft Fiber & Friends 2014 is a week long Fiber Arts event that will be taking place June 22-29, 2014, in the remote commercial fishing village of Cordova, Alaska.

Beginning with an evening introduction and presentation, Sunday evening, June 22, the event will feature  five days of fiber art workshops led by a variety of instructors, some internationally well known, and some by our own local treasures.   Students may take as many or as few workshops as desired and may interlace their time with outdoor activities and informal knit and chat sessions, which will take place at our historic Pioneer Lodge.

Midweek, after two days of workshops, there will be an Adventure Day  where participants may sign up for a variety of outdoor activities, including hikes, kayak trips, and glacier visits.

Each evening there will be an evening program divided between a sharing of our local culture and one of our guest instructor speakers, with guest authors available for book signings following their presentations.  For those night owls in the group, we will be getting together informally after the evening program to relax, knit, spin, crochet, and visit upstairs at The Net Loft and perhaps at a few night spots around town.

True to the core values of The Net Loft, our intention for the event and for the imbetween times is to have opportunities to spend some quality time together, learn something new, and develop new and old  friendships  amongst those who share a love of fiber arts.

Children's classes have always been a valued and important element of Net Loft tradition, and will also be included in the programming of our weeklong event.   Children will be able to sign up for workshops involving hands-on fiberart learning opportunities hosted by our visiting guest instructors in a variety of topics.

Besides the fiberart workshops, for those interested, there will be other activities such as  early morning walks, Morning Yoga for Knitters, Art Tours,  and afternoon hikes available  to enjoy.  Some will require preregistration and others will be just come as you will.  At the end of the week, on Sunday afternoon, we are planning a picnic potluck at the edge of Lake Eyak, followed by a final evening group session for our closing night.

FEES:  There will be a $25 registration fee for the entire event.  Each workshop is priced individually and will be added to the total.   You may register for as few or as many workshops as you would like.  All full day classes include lunch.  (Special  food needs may be requested and there will be an opportunity to make that information known closer to the event.)  Those in half day workshops may request  and purchase boxed lunches (ordered previously) or pursue other eating options in town or from home.  All evening sessions, as well as the picnic are included in the program with no added fees,  and  will be open to the local Cordova community to attend.  Admittance to our local Historical Museum will also be provided.  Adventure Day Fees for certain activities will be charged according to the activity and are based on the company who is providing the service to our group.

FEES FOR CHILDREN'S CLASS ONLY

Register child under child's name separately.  There is NO REGISTRATION FEE associated with children's classes.  Use Code: CHILD25   when registering to elminate the added fee.

DISCOUNT:   There is a 10%  multi session discount  on class fees available  for those that preregister and pay for their registration before April 1 (must be in by midnight March 30)  and whose registration fees amount to $250 or more.   $25 Event registration fee not subject to discount.

MATERIALS FEES:  Some of the workshops will include materials and supplies.  These classes will be listed as materials and supplies included.  All Children’s classes include materials and instruction.  If there is an added fee due to the instructor, those fees are to be paid to the instructor the day of the event, and are not subject to the discount.

HOMEWORK:  Some classes will require homework that must be completed beforehand. Instructions will be mailed out by March 30 with any homework that will  need to be completed before class.

CLASS SIZE: We have purposely kept our class sizes small which  will range between 6-14 students, depending on the course.  Because class sizes are so small,  early preregistration  is encouraged.

MARKETPLACE: There will be a small marketplace on site for fiberart related purchasing.  Requests for having a table at the event may be made to dottybw1@comcast.net.  There is a limited number of tables available and entrance is subject to approval by The Net Loft.   The Net Loft is sponsoring this event and the store will be open during the event for purchasing yarn and supplies. Knitting tools and yarns will be available for purchase for students needing anything  they may need for classes.

We are really looking forward to this event and connecting those who are within and surrounding our local fiberarts community.  Our hope is to have half  of the attendance to be from town and half to be from out of town.  Our plan  is for those from out of town to have an opportunity to experience life in our little fishing town and for those from in town to make new friends and meet some of the personalities who have been an inspiration and a source for designs in their knitting projects.  We are looking at a projected attendance of 80-100.

This is our first time holding this event, but it has been a dream and a thought for a long time coming, and look forward to a wonderful week of sharing and fiber festivity.
